Wearables Activity

Are activity trackers effective in increasing physical activity?

Activity trackers are widely used in the form of devices like smartwatches and smartphone apps. But do they actually increase physical activity?

Results: A study involving 163,992 individuals from both clinical and non-clinical populations across various age groups demonstrated that activity trackers can lead to: 1) An increase of approximately 1,800 extra steps per day. 2) An additional 40 minutes of walking per day. 3) A reduction in body weight by about 1 kg.

However: The effects of activity trackers on other physiological parameters (e.g., blood pressure) and psychosocial factors (e.g., quality of life) are often small and not statistically significant.
