Effects of Aero Bar Handle Position
Effect of different aero handlebar positions on aerodynamic and gas exchange variables
Methods: n=7 athletes performed submaximal tests in six different TTPs. O2 uptake, respiratory exchange ratio, minute ventilation, and tidal volume were measured. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyzed airflow patterns around the cyclists.
Result: Varying the aero handlebar position significantly influences aerodynamic performance, while maximal values of all the gas exchange variables remained unchanged.
„The low drag cases correspond to the position where the aero handlebar moved down and forward.“
