Accuracy Wearables
Consumer wearables are everywhere, helping people track heart rate, sleep, and fitness. But how accurate are they? 📊
A review of 249 systematic reviews found some :
💓 Heart Rate: Accurate within ±3%.
⚡ Arrhythmia Detection: Sensitivity 100%, Specificity 95%.
🚶♀️ Step Counts: Errors range from -9% to +12%.
💤 Sleep Tracking: Overestimates sleep by >10%.
However, wearables often overestimate aerobic capacity (VO2max) and underestimate energy expenditure. Many devices still lack comprehensive validation.
The takeaway? These tools are promising, but more standardized research is needed to make them truly reliable for health monitoring. 🤝📈
