HRV-informed Endurance training is it better compared to „normal“ endurance training

Endurance athletes often wonder „how much“ endurance training should be done to a) do „enough“ to improve performance, but b) not do „too much“ to avoid overtraining. Heart rate variability can potentially provide information to guide athletes on this decision

A systematic literature review shows that endurance training controlled in this way (compared to a „predefined“ training plan):

1) leads to fewer intense training sessions

2) has a moderate effect on submaximal parameters

3) produces more positive responders

4) has no significant effects on performance parameters

5) still lacks long-term studies
